Så går ett år – Tiden i Sjöbo

We wanted to present a picture of Sweden and chose Sjobö, a dot on the landscape in the middle of nowhere, because Sweden is better viewed from underneath in Sjobö than from above the capital. When we shot the first metres on New Year’s Eve 1986, Sjobö was a provincial non-entity (…). When we had finished filming in 1988, Sjobö had become notorious up and down the country, for narrow-mindedness, xenophobia and racism. For more than one year we filmed some of the people who live there. Their ideas, their days and their existence. Our Swedish life.
