Lodz is a textile industry centre in full recession. Janusz’s family has been waiting to be given a flat for 15 years. Janusz, his wife and their two children live in a single tiny room on the upper floor of a dilapidated building. Janusz is a bus driver. The lack of space at home has compelled him to work on the night shift. Family life has come to look like a jigsaw puzzle. Whenever someone tries to take an object in so small a place, a series of shifts for the surrounding objects is immediately triggered off.
