A very personal view of Haiti by the filmmaker, Jörgen Leth, who has lived on the island for some years. A country where reality resembles fiction and events take a story-like turn. A country where history, superstition and voodoo still weigh heavily on political life. A history written in blood, made of violence, slavery, fighting and revolt… The film attempts to investigate its myths and everyday life through moments which are sometimes moving and sometimes dramatic: “It is as if Haiti has a hypnotising effect on me. Every time I go back, I have the impression of plunging into chaos. Yet, this chaos fascinates me with its mystery, its horrors, its sensuality and its surrealist scenes.” (Jörgen Leth)

Jørgen Leth

Né en 1937, journaliste, écrivain et réalisateur. Pendant plusieurs années, il enseigne à la National Film School of Denmark. Il a écrit plusieurs ouvrages de poésie, des essais et des scénarios.
