Chinchilla Dry

Richard Keddie
Andrew Wiseman
1996 Australia 55 minutes English

For five years now, the prosperous region Chinchilla has been hit by a terrible drought. Throughout the four seasons of 1995, two farming families struggle for survival , because their income is down to a minimum and the bank from which they have borrowed money has a gun to their head. Threatened with the possibility of having to sell up in order to pay off their debts, the Mc Cabes and Wilcoxes stoically attempt to save their farms, Avon Downs and Aqaba, which, much more than just real estate, represent for them roots in life and their children’s future. The film shows the extents to which, even in the contemporary world, man’s relationship with the land remains both essential and fragile.
