“Born in 1986, Paul suffers from impaired vision, does not speak and cannot walk or co-ordinate his movements. Yet his hearing is good and he has no problem in communicating with those who are ready to listen to him. His arrival was to cause a complete upheaval in the lives of his parents, Jane and Lucien, whom I met some fifteen years ago. Lucien is an actor and theatre director, Jane is a dancer and choreographer. Paul’s handicap was discovered little by little. After ill-suited advice and mistakes, following their own intuition, they have been fighting daily for ten years now in order for their son to have a destiny and lead a real life. I filmed Paul in camescope, as his parents asked me to, so as to keep track of his progress. The idea of making a more complete film came out of these fragments. The film shows a triple portrait which is meant to convey the story of a struggle, a story of love.” (André Pascal Gaultier)
