Lettres d’amour en Somalie

Frédéric Mitterrand
1982 France 100 minutes French

In its own way, Lettres d’amour en Somalie is an extension of the 19th century traveller’s tales. The story unfolds through a series of letters, which both recount the voyager’s impressions of Africa and express his disarray with a love affair. The images of the present intertwine with the unceasing echoes of a lost love – intimate suffering intermingled with the misery of a country torn apart by internal strife and poverty.
