The small Serbian town of Beocin lies under a permanent cloud of cement spat out by the local factory. In the socialist years, the factory was an ingrained part of life for the town’s 15,000 inhabitants, as well as a source of security. Today, everything has changed. War arrived with all its horrors. The factory was privatised, and many employees were laid off. Some moved into taxi-driving, but customers are few and far between as money is scarce. Misko occasionally works at the factory, since his job at the Cement Boxing Club is not enough to make ends meet. The youngsters he trains dream of “making it” and living far from Beocin thanks to boxing, just like their idol who trained at the same club and made it to the Olympic Games. And then, on the heights overlooking the town, stands a house owned by an elderly couple. Their small garden is like a peaceful oasis, where they can live true to themselves, despite their surroundings’
