Las Hurdes Tierra sin pan

Land Without Bread

“This cinematographic experiment in human geography was filmed in 1932, shortly after the founding of the Spanish Republic. (…) “Las Hurdes” is a barren, inhospitable region whose inhabitants are involved in an hourly struggle for survival.” (quoted from the film) This film, which largely reflects the surrealist movement’s own preoccupations with social issues, was banned until 1936.
