Un Racconto incominciato

A Commenced Story
Arturo Lavorato
Felice D’Agostino
2006 Italy 80 minutes Italian

The Calabria of Felice D’Agostino and Arturo Lavorato is a land steeped in night, an obscure mass surrounded by the roar of the sea and transformed every morning into gold by”the worlds greatest artist”… the sun. The sea is omnipresent, a huge silver disk imprisoning the land. Wherever you go, through the streets of Nicotera Marina or the local countryside orange groves, sea’s breath is oppressive. The comings and goings of the fishing boats give rhythm to village life, like pulse beats. The land itself is arid, the vegetation scraggy. It only begins to shine under the dual fire of sun and sea. The moon, that unlucky star, has not been invited to the festivities, as it leads the fishermen astray. (Yann Lardeau)
