The film chronicles Pasolini’s itinerary in the Holy Land, between June and July 1963, as he was looking for locations for The Gospel according to St. Matthew, together with Father Carraco. The artist, though deeply moved, is disappointed. He was looking for ancient, sacred places and only finds modern times, folklore and unbearable hardship.
