Street interviews in New York: what does it mean to be a citizen of a city or country? Where does individual responsibility begin and end? The interviewer’s questions—Are you satisfied? Does equal opportunity exist in the Unitied States?—are deduced from the interviewees answers. They follow an incisive logic—the most banal answers are rendered more complex by those that follow. And the spectrum of replies reveals patterns within a very diverse human sample.
