Le Beau plaisir

Michel Brault
1969 Canada 15 minutes French

The inhabitants of the Ile-aux-Coudres know better than anyone how to hunt porpoises. With consummate art, they stick willow stakes into the muddy bottom and set a heart shaped trap. The porpoise plunges in along the poles, tries to escape at the bottom of one of the boats. This documentary invites us to share in the fine pleasure of capturing a porpoise with the inhabitants of the Ile-aux-Coudres.
