We follow the same character — Robert AA Lowe — through three experiences spanning a total withdrawal from the world, life in a community and a musical trance. In this triptych, characterised by participative ethnology, Ben Rivers and Ben Russell explore the possibilities of spirituality and transcendence and beyond… and the eventuality of a Utopia — even a cinematographic one — in our present lives.

CONCERT
The protagonist of A Spell to Ward Off the Darkness, Robert AA Lowe (often known under his stage name “Lichens”), whose work on stage is akin to performance, experiments with the relation between instruments (synthesised or acoustic) and the voice. He proposes a musical session after the screening.
