Alma futur

In Roubaix, a city famous for its textile industry, the inhabitants wish to enjoy decent housing, and stay in the old districts that have provided them with intense social life for so long. Alma-Gare is one such quarter, in which there has been a 15 year long struggle: the inhabitants organized within the APU (Urban Community Workshop) prepare the rehabilitation project they intend to submit to elected representatives. Architects and sociologists have taken part in the discussions. “It is the first time”, says the APU, “that workers dare to create together a new place to live”. The film team has filmed them from June to November 1977.
