Arne Treholt – En skaebne

Suspected of spying for the Soviet Union and Irak, Arne Treholt, a Norwegian diplomat, saw his life ruined in May 1984 when he was arrested at Oslo airport. Since then he has always claimed his innocence. Now liberated after more than eight years in prison, he recounts the suffering he lived through: the cross-examinations, solitary confinement, trial, detention, twenty-year prison sentence, separation from those dear to him. The film is not intended to reopen a closed case, but rather to show how such moral torture has enabled an individual’s personality to evolve towards a certain voluntary deprivation and a certain wisdom.
