80% of Bolivian coca production is cultivated in the tropical plain of Chapare, isolated from the world. The cultivators, originally from the mountains, are peasants, former miners, unemployed and solidly organised. The others, from the capital or from Northern countries, are engineers, priests, drug traffickers, politicians, aid workers. All of them are trapped in the viscious circle of an economy that does not depend of them.
