Donya Feuer followed Katja Björner, a young hopeful of the dance world, from her beginnings at the Stockholm dance school, when she was 13, to the start of her professional career at the age of 17: the discipline of rehearsals with the ballet masters and choreographers, the torturous everyday physical work, competitions, stage fright, first performances on stage… “How do you capture something that is vanishing ? Expérience once it is gained ? Movement once it is made ? The very moment when a series of movements and steps becomes dance ? How do you catch sight of the body at all : the body as it is transformed into an instrument, inevitable, fascinating – when it becomes the teller of another kind of truth ? Thanks to Katja, an unexpected opportunity presented itself – to accompagny an artist coming into being, as she developed, to elucidate something of the awesome in the innermost essence of the dance. Suddenly, I realized that the film on dance I had long had in mind could now be made.” (Donya Feuer)
