A young music student falls in love with a deaf woman who is studying the circus and works in a pantomime theater. Their tentative approach toward each other and attempts to communicate their different worlds are portrayed with gentleness. The use of sound to isolate and recreate the silence of the young deaf woman is exceptional, centering on her war-related memories of the hearing world.
