René Clair drew inspiration from dadaist and surrealist writing, such as cadavres exquis, to film this sequence of burlesque images: a bearded ballerina, a hearse drawn by a camel… This film was shown during the interval of a play entitled, “relâche”, as a ploy to divert the attention of the censorship authorities.
