When artist Michael Smither was a boy he tried to fly. This documentary follows his second attempt, years later, as a much heavier than air adult. Michael’s dream of flying is based on his observation of birds – the film includes birds observing Michael as he struggles to imitate them, in a suit of his own design. “Flight of Fancy” follows every step of his attempt, in an extraordinary landscape – the isolated northern tip of New Zealand’s South Island.
