After a miracle had taken place, a sanctuary was built to the Virgin of the Bow in the 17h century. On Quasimodo Sunday, crowds flock to the pilgrimage at Somma Vesuviana, near Naples. Flagellants come from ancient confraternities, whose members used to beat themselves. Those from Naples, led by the “Head of Flagellants”, carry proessional banners and the Tosello, on which the image of the Virgin is placed.
