“Even if he can’t really speak, despite his handicapped body, Jean-Jacques is not what we call the ‘village idiot’. Direct cinema: Jean-Jacques is the mainstay of the film, the mirror that reflects the people of Octeville-sur-Mer. Seeing him amongst the others change our perception of them. Contrasts that are funny, cruel sometimes… the film is an essay on a village community in 1986, but beyond that, it is the somewhat puzzling mystery of a person who does not or cannot really reveal himself.” (Jean Gaumy)
