The second of two films which portray Jozef Nowak, the director’s grand-father, a Pole who emigrated to Great Britain during World War II. “Szare”, shot in Poland two years after Jozef, depicts his return to the village where he was brought up; certain difficulties he has in communicating with his entourage show him to be ill at ease, faced with a reality he no longer recognizes.
