LOUIS MARCORELLES AWARD-MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS

“Each day of her life, my mother stands in front of her mirror and draws a red spot on her forehead, as a sign of the Indian woman she has become. Forty years ago, she decided to leave for India to give her life up to a humanitarian cause. In fact, she has never really returned. Caught between her social struggles and her family life, torn between two continents, this exemplary woman is also an absent mother. It is the emptiness left by her absence that I am now attempting to fill. As I track intimate and family memories in sometimes painful confrontations between mother and daughter, I am exploring what it means both to take up a cause and also to have children.” (Delphine de Blic)
