La Zerda et les chants de l’oubli

Using archive images from colonial times, Assia Djebar has composed a film essay in which the sound track gives Maghrebans the chance to express themselves. Poetry, cries of revolt and songs, in both Arabic and French, provide a note of counterpoint to the official version of events, as well as a glimpse of how the Maghrebans lived under French domination.
