The Vaugirard and La Villette slaughterhouses in Paris. Georges Franju was 36 when Jacques Chausserie-Laprée, in charge of the short film section of the National Centre for cinema, introduced him to Paul Legros, a retired sea captain and “prestige” film producer. He had already co-founded the Cinémathèque française with Henri Langlois, founded the art and science cinema network and was since 1945 secretary to the FIAF and general secretary to the Scientific cinema Institute.
