Scenes from everyday life in Lhassa, the capital of Chinese Tibet, reopened to foreigners when the practice of lamaist Bouddhism was again authorized. The shooting took place inside the town itself, in the Jokhang and the Potala as well as in three of the biggest monasteries which surround Lhassa. The film also contains a sequence on the Tibetan ritual of the Dead.
