Madser and Gitser are hard-to-handle adolescents, rather irregular pupils at a specialized school in a high-risk district in the centre of Dublin, where the police rarely venture. Between two rides in a “borrowed” car which may end up being burnt, they meet together on the roof of their brick block of flats and, like Little Docker their young neighbour, take care of their homing pigeons – tenderly, patiently, skilfully. Pigeon racing is an Irish working-class speciality and the races organised by the parish priest are local events that are not to be missed for anything.
