Shepherds from the Sardinian mountains, grappling with material problems, isolation and the modern world, as today’s world now belongs to “barmen andand the tourists on the beaches”. Pietro is 17 and leaving school. His father, Franchiscu, herds goats in the rugged mountains of eastern Sardinia. Their friend Miminu, another shepherd, 43 and unmarried seems destined for a life of isolation. Will Pietro follow his father into the mountains or work in the hotel business in town ? For Pietro the lives of his father and Miminu are reference points against which to measure himself and decide his future.
