On the pretext of a geological mission to build a canal, Viajo porque preciso, volto porque te amo is the story of a disaster, that of a couple too complementary to get on well. He is a geologist, she is a botanist-the avowal of an impossible grief that consumes the narrator, and the old adage “out of sight, out of mind” is apparently ineffective. Viajo porque preciso, volto porque te amo is a farewell letter, a passionate love letter where, the further the film advances, the more the official motive for the trip crumbles, the more the author is devoured by passion and, with Mexican horns and percussions in the background, the more the night, the chiaroscuro, the obsession of the flesh and the taste of death envelop a land scorched by the sertão sun. A heart of stone against a carnivorous plant. (Yann Lardeau)
