The tragic destiny of the Ovechkin family was determined on March 8th, 1988: an abortive hijacking bid to leave the USSR ended in suicide or prison. In 1986, the filmmakers Herz Frank and Vladimir Eisner had completed The Seven Simeons, on the seven Ovetchkin brothers’ jazz band. They reworked their film in the light of the 1988 events, in an attempt to understand the reasons and implications of the Ovechkin drama.
