Thirty years ago, at Mejorada outside Madrid near the city’s airport, Justo set out alone on the task of building Spain’s last cathedral. He has no fixed ideas for this ‘Roman fortress – which lacks however the former’s sturdiness’ and is using waste materials and the help of two village lads, Sergio and Antonio. Tourists and neighbours take a look around the building site, whilst the builder and his two apprentices, indifferent to the onlookers, are busy working on the unfinished dome.
