Chronique d’un été : été 1960

Jean Rouch
Edgar Morin
1961 France 90 minutes French

A sociological and ethnographical approach to the theme of happiness in 1960 Paris. This film was seen as launching the “Cinema verite” style that was to be highly controversial. Rouch forbids himself to photograph people without their being aware of it, contrary to directors who prefer to use direct cinema techniques. Here, the camera is provocative and lets people react to its presence.
