“My father, Pierre Laroche, was about to set out on what was probably going to be his last year of teaching at drama school… At the outset of this new year, another group of youngsters was to be selected to embark upon the next few years of training and, one day maybe, to become professional actors… Upon the first encounter organised between these ten new students, the rest of the class and their future teachers, I felt compelled to make a film about them and to tell their story[…] This story is about their first steps in training to be actors. It relates the sharing of their teachers’ experience, the blossoming of their technique and the discovery of the world of theatre to which they will one day belong. I wanted to devote time to living with this ‘family’ for a whole year and to accompanying some of the students whose fervour I had felt from the entrance exam right through to their first public performance.” (Jean-Philippe Laroche)
