Des Vacances malgré tout

Malek Bensmaïl
2000 France 70 minutes French; Arabic

“In 1964, Kader Kabouche, a young electrician, emigrated to France. His five children, all born there, have French nationality. For the last twenty years back in Algeria, his brother Ali has been in charge of building Kader’s house in their home village, not far from Algiers. For the first time in fifteen years, the family go to spend their summer holidays in the house. A journey into the heart of a modern-day Algerian family. Searching for the traces of a recent past and spontaneous impressions, these small family stories speak in all simplicity about Franco-Algerian history.” (Malek Bensmaïl)
