Det Sociala arvet

Stefan Jarl
1992 Sweden 86 minutes Swedish

In the late 60’s, Stoffe, Kenta and Jajje were young rebels, born to parents who had problems in Sweden’s “model society”. (Dom Kallar oss mods / They Call Us Mods, 1968). In the late 70’s, they were hooked on alcohol and drugs. Stoffe died on a heroin overdose. They had begun to have children (Ett anständigt liv / A Respectable Life, 1979). What has happened to them and their children twenty five years later ? Janne, Skoffe’ son, Patrick the son of Kenta “Sweden’s poorest vagabond” and Carina, daughter of the alcoholic Jajje, are now the age their parents were in the first film. They talk about their relationships with their parents, about their lives, their future, hopes and ambitious in a society no longer that their parents. No one is condemned out of hand, the theory of social determinism is not infallible and reality can be full of surprises. This is the last of the trilogy, Det Sociala arvet / The Social Heritage.
