It’s All True: Based on an Unfinished Film by Orson Welles

Bill Krohn
1993 France; United States 85 minutes English; Portuguese

Orson Welles is fascinated by his discovery of Brazil. He films its rituals, its ocean, its music and its carnival. The shooting of this fateful film was punctuated with violent incidents between the producers and Orson Welles, leading to a final break-up but it, above all, saw the tragic death of one of the jangadeiros. Today, the film is divided into two parts: a short introduction about the shooting of the film and the episode entitled The Trip of the Jangadeiros. Only fragments remain of the other two episodes filmed by Orson Welles, My friend Bonito and The Story of Samba.
