“At first, with the tender curiosity of grandfather and filmmaker, I simply wished to follow you for a few years, film something of childhood, and how you were feeling your way towards your personality.” Daughter of the stars, the rocks and the sea, and even the whales, but always of a king and queen, Garance is only human by accident. Her humanity is just an outer shell, but one that she cannot escape. The confidence with which she improvises her stories and invents fantastic genealogies for herself subjugates Jean-Patrick Lebel, who rediscovers there the first enchantment of cinema. More than a new art of being a grandfather, Je m’appelle Garance is above all a remarkable meditation on the film shot. (Yann Lardeau)
