Matti ke lal – fils de la terre

Elisabeth Leuvrey
1997 France 20 minutes

In India, in a district of Old Delhi, a man leads a relentless day-to-day struggle – against History, against his times, against human weaknesses, and also against God. Guru Hanuman has chosen to offer up his life to his country and its children. Having founded a school for street urchins, he not only teaches them kushti, a traditional form of combat fought in a ring of mud, but also man’s daily struggle against his destiny. A meeting with this 98-year-old man, born at the beginning of the century and nourished on the ideas of liberation and independence: a living legend of struggle in India.’ (Elisabeth Leuvrey)
