Four criss-crossed stories of legal matters in a solicitor’s rural practice situated in Haute-Auvergne. Two property sales negotiations, an inventory and an inheritance turn the practice into a place where property and money reign amidst intimate conversations and secrets exchanged. The focus on what is said and on details, such as people’s gestures, attitudes and looks exchanged, reveal different ways of acting and apprehending the world, especially with regard to death and money. The precise, meticulous approach to filming this closed universe takes the spectator into a series of scenes in several acts, where the characters seem to come from another world, far-removed, yet extremely similar to our own.
