Pas comme des loups

Boys in Wolves' Clothing
Vincent Pouplard
2016 France 59 minutes French

The twins, Roman and Sifredi, are the hub. Around them, a few chums. Marginal, wild, living on the outskirts of towns, almost in the forest. With today’s desire to categorise everything, they would be called “young drop-outs”. But that would mean overlooking their lovely characters, which the film makes plain to see. Their muscular bodies, their faces of those untamed but who have not forgotten gentleness fill the screen. And more than bodies, they are also words – be it their rap or simple conversations where every word counts – since for them, the French language embodies their relationship with the world and with the distant society to which they do not belong. And trying their utmost to define themselves with words, they conclude that they will never be “someone”, they will always be “free”. And we believe it. (Carine Bernasconi)
