This police officer’s career began in the German Imperial era. During the Weimar Republic he was beating up radicals. After 1933 he served with distinction under the new regime, but in the brave new world of the Federal Republic he has clearly gained even deeper insight: “Now I’d punch anyone in the face who doesn’t behave democratically.”
