A virtuoso violinist and visionary composer, Alexander Bãlãnescu has led the Bãlãnescu Quartet since 1987 and worked with Gavin Bryars, Michael Nyman, Phil Mulloy, David Byrne, “Lounge Lizard” John Lurie, Jack de Johnette, Ornette Coleman, the Pet Shop Boys and Kraftwerk. Bãlãnescu also composes for film and television, notably Philip Haas’ film, “Angels and Insects”, Guillaume Nicloux’s “Le Poulpe”, Guido Chiesa’s “Il Partigiano Johnny” and more than twenty animation films, most of which were made by Phil Mulloy. He has composed the music for several of Stephen Dwoskin’s films, including “Age is…”

As part of the tribute to Stephen Dwoskin, this violist and composer, who worked closly with the filmmaker, will talk about his work composing for cinema.
