Robinsons of Mantsinsaari
The island of Mantsinsaari belonged to Finland until 1944. After the World War II, it became Russian and the population remained Finnish. Stalin then colonised the island with enemies of the people and a few volunteers from across the Soviet provinces. After the fall of the Berlin Wall, those who had not died returned to the continent. Only two men stayed behind: a Finn and a Belorussian. One fishes and lives off the sea, the other hunts and lives off the land. Sharing the island by splitting it into its two major elements suits them perfectly, as their chances of meeting are slight. They do not talk to each other. One lives with his fish and the yellowed photos of his parents, the other with his horse. The only point linking them is Chappi, the Finn’s dog who loves hunting with Alexej, teasing his horse Almaz, and even more, courting Tajga, the female husky.
