Safari au Xingu
1983
France
27 minutes
The Xingu Indians, gathered and brought by the Villas Boas brothers to a reservation park have been able to survive and preserve some of their traditions. This is how they continue to celebrate the Kuarup, their major ceremony. On the occasiony, the film shows the dangers of the “indigenous politics” which has concentrated them on the reservation. Bartering has become the basis of all contact with visitors, and all too often it ithe native craftsman is scandalously robbed. The reservation, which receives more and more visitors, has become a field of investigation and experimentation for western science with the Indians as guinea pigs. Finally, deluxe tourism turns Xingu into a zoological garden.
