Symbiopsychotaxiplasm: Take 2 1/2

William Greaves
2005 United States 99 minutes English

In 1968, the filmmaker got together a small crew and organised auditions for an experimental film that mixed the Stanislavsky method, psychodrama and documentary to tell the story of a couple’s separation. Against a social backdrop of anti-authoritarian movements, the crew rebelled against the filmmaker. The images of their discussions about the project were included in a first film, symbiopsychotaxiplasm Take One, which explores questions about cinema and the frontiers between fiction and documentary. Thirty-five years later, two of the Take One actors and a good number of the original crew, along with some newcomers, pursue this adventure using the same exploratory approach. The actors work on redefining or testing out how the characters have evolved, the crew interferes once again… but individual destiny and developments in American society have partly changed the rules of the game. Take 2 1/2 humorously continues to explore reality and its fictions.
