Tableaux d’une intimité

Judith Du Pasquier
1996 France 58 minutes French

“The film tells the story of a couple of painters, Isabel and Grégoire, in Paris in 1996. About thirty years old, they live together in a large house, where each of them has a studio. Being a painter means choosing a precarious and solitary existence. Each of them is alone before their canvas, denuded, and moved by an immense and vulnerable energy, prey to deeply personal questions that are difficult to formulate and share. The couple gets on well, in its daily routine, its complicity, confrontations, relations with the outside world. Painting is central to their relationship, as much as a tie as a source of potential conflict. Following their day-to-day existences, the film pivots around two universal mysteries – the artist’s work and the story of love.” (Judith Du Pasquier)
