Tahta Sama’ Dimashq

Ismaïl Anzour
1931 Syria 60 minutes silent

A man is found murdered under the balcony of the daughter of a bourgeois family. She is accused of having had a sinful relationship with him. A melodrama that documents Syrian life and mentalities in the 1930s. The arrival of the first Egyptian “talking” films, disagreement with the censorship and problems with rights clearance put an early end to the film’s career and the production company destiny.
