The ballad of Oppenheimer park
Harley, an Ojibwe in his twenties, lives in a city park with a band of his fellow Canadian Natives. For fun, they start shooting a Western there. While filming, Harley’s partner dies in a freak accident. Battling alcoholism and destitution, he’s stunned when her
disapproving family bars him from attending the funeral. Alongside his friends Janet and Bear,
Harley decides to continue making the film while struggling to mourn her death. Delicate parallels arise between clichés from the Western genre, which the protagonists both mock and uphold, and the condition of Natives across the Americas. Ultimately, The Ballad of Oppenheimer Park transforms these strains into a song of hope and redemption.
