“In early 2001, I revisited Long-Shan Temple. Coming out of the clean, modern subway, you find along the roadside scores of fortune-tellers’ stands and food vendors. Most of the visitors inside the temple are elderly people, who come there every day. They sit quietly in the corners, sleeping, murmuring or thinking of nothing. Some sell flowers or ask for charity. Others keep an eye on their neighbours, scolding them from time to time.. Some are waiting, or waiting for nothing. They look like statues carved by time, approaching the end of their life. I am touched by all these images and feel I want to record each detail. Their way of facing time is something I am not able to achieve. I feel anxious, disturbed…” (HUANG Ting-fu)
